Sombra

Privacy Policy

Effective November 6, 2026

Sombra ("Sombra," "we," "us" or "our") makes Sombra, an iPhone app that shows whether a ballpark seat will be in the sun or the shade, inning by inning, and runs this website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Service, how we use it, and the choices you have.

The short version

Personal information we collect

In the app: information that stays on your iPhone

The app saves what you enter only on your device, in the app's own storage:

We never receive any of this. Like the rest of your iPhone's app data, it may be included in your device backups (for example, iCloud Backup), which Apple handles under its own privacy policy.

Ticket imports, the camera and the microphone

You can bring a ticket in from an Apple Wallet pass file (.pkpass), a screenshot or photo of the ticket, or the text of a confirmation email that you paste in. Sombra reads them on your iPhone, using Apple's built-in text recognition (the Vision framework) for images. The file, image or text is not uploaded and not kept. Only the seat details you choose to save are stored, on your device.

The app uses the camera only if you choose to take a photo of a ticket, and that photo is processed on your device. Sombra never uses the microphone. iOS may ask about it only if you switch the camera to video while picking a file.

Information Apple shares with us

Apple may give us aggregated statistics about the app and, if you have chosen to share with app developers in your iPhone's settings, crash reports. These come from Apple, under Apple's privacy policy, and don't identify you to us.

When you contact us

If you use the support form on this website, we receive your email address, your name (if you give one), the topic you pick, your message, and your browser's user agent (a line of text naming your browser and device type). To prevent abuse, the form also keeps your IP address for one minute, which limits it to one message per minute.

When you visit this website

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes visitors' IP addresses and request information (such as the page requested, the browser and the time) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy.

Services the app connects to

To work, the app requests public data from these services:

Like any web request, these requests give the service your device's IP address and standard request information (such as the time and the type of device and software making the request). Each service handles that under its own privacy policy. The app doesn't send them your name, your tickets or anything else you entered.

Cookies and tracking

The app uses no cookies, no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no tracking, and it doesn't access your device's advertising identifier (IDFA). It doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

We don't set cookies on this website or use analytics or trackers on it. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it has to check that a visitor isn't a bot.

How we use personal information

We use the personal information we receive only to:

We don't use it for marketing or advertising.

How we share personal information

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We disclose it only:

How long we keep it

Your choices

Other sites and services

Some links in the app open other websites or apps, such as MLB Gameday or a ticket site. Those sites are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, so please read them.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the personal information we hold. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee the security of information sent over the internet. The information you enter in the app never leaves your iPhone and is protected by your device's own security, such as your passcode.

International data transfer

We are based in the United States. Cloudflare may process website and support data in the United States and other countries, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information through the support form, contact us and we will delete it.

Your U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia or another state with a privacy law that applies to us), you may have the right to:

Because the app keeps your information on your iPhone, the only personal information we may hold about you is what you sent us through the support form. To make a request, use the support form and choose "Privacy request." We will reply to the email address you give, and we may ask for more information to confirm your identity. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our decision.

In the past 12 months, we have collected only identifiers (your email address, an optional name and, for one minute, your IP address), your browser's user agent, and the content of the messages you send us. We collected them from you, to reply to you and to prevent abuse, and disclosed them only to our service provider, Cloudflare. We have not sold or shared personal information, we don't disclose it to third parties for their direct marketing, and we don't collect sensitive personal information. We have no actual knowledge of collecting personal information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. If we make material changes, we will change the effective date above and post the new version on this page, and we may also let you know in the app. If you keep using the Service after the new version takes effect, it applies to that use.

How to contact us
